About the MAT Practice Test
Currently, two MAT Practice Tests are available. Practice Test 1 is the same as
the one available in 2004–05, with the addition of explanations for the correct
answer to each analogy item. Practice Test 2 is entirely new. Both Practice
Tests consist of 100 multiple-choice analogy items. Like the actual MAT, both
Practice Tests require you to use both subject matter knowledge and analytical
skills to solve problems stated as analogies.
The items on each Practice Test involve content from the following subjects:
-
General (popular culture, work, business, life experience)
-
Humanities (history, fine art, literature, philosophy, religion, music)
-
Mathematics (numerical, quantitative, computation)
-
Natural Sciences (biology, chemistry, physics, ecology)
-
Social Sciences (history, psychology, sociology, economics, political science,
anthropology)
-
Vocabulary and Language (word meanings, grammar, usage)
Each Practice Test item also involves one or more of the following
relationships between terms:
-
Semantic (meaning, definition, synonym, antonym, contrast, degree, intensity,
word parts, expressions)
-
Classification (hierarchy, classification, category, membership, whole/part)
-
Association (object/characteristic, order, sequence, transformation,
agent/object, creator/creation, function, purpose)
-
Logical/Mathematical (mathematical equivalence, multiples, negation; letter or
sound patterns)
Pricing
Because the Practice Tests consist of items like those on the actual test, you
can take both Practice Tests under conditions similar to those on the day of
the exam. For a
$23.99
fee, you can take one Practice Test, review the correct answers and
explanations, and see your simulated scores. The Practice Test items, answers,
and explanations are viewable only online and cannot be printed.
The Practice Test fee allows you to take one test one time. You may take as long
as you wish to work your way through the items, until you request that the test
be scored. After your Practice Test is scored, you will not be able to review
any of the items. If you wish to take another Practice Test, you will need to
pay the
$23.99
fee again. Each of the two Practice Tests currently available contains a unique
